Challenging Course for Scouts- Cross-Country Race

2 March 2015

Teams from the 14th Lowestoft group showed a clean pair of heels to their rivals in the Lowestoft District scouts cross-country competition.

The race, held at the scout’s campsite at Herringfleet on the Somerleyton estate, set the runners the task of completing either a 2km, 3km or 4km course depending on their ages.

Organiser Lawrence Chapman said that the runners were fortunate to have good weather for the race but described conditions underfoot as challenging – with water, mud and an incline to contend with.

14th Lowestoft won both the U12 & U14 team events. The individual winners were under 12’s (2km) Thomas Spurgeon of 4th Lowestoft in a time of 7.51 minutes. The under 14’s (3km) winner was Max Simms in a time of 11.34 minutes and in first place in the under 18’s (4km) was Jack Stanton of Lowestoft Explorer Scouts in a time of 16.39
