Cub Quiz & Handicraft 14

6 December 2014

Young cub scouts from all seven packs in the Lowestoft district had their knowledge tested recently when they took part in a fun quiz.

The brainteaser contest, which is an annual event, was held at the Poplars school, in Lowestoft and each team was made up of six cubs, with two aged eight, two aged nine and two aged ten.

The Quiz was divided into four rounds with questions on Scouting, sport, general knowledge and music, the latter being compiled by young people from the Explorer Scouts.

Assistant District Commissioner Paul Cator was the question master for the quiz and he said, “it was a very close contest and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I never cease to be impressed by how much these youngsters know. The winners by half a point were 2nd Carlton Colville (31 points) with 1st Pakefield in second place (30.5 points) and 1st Carlton Colville in third place (28.5 points). “

Other cubs have been busy demonstrating different skills at a handicraft competition, which was recently organised by the 2nd Carlton Colville group and was held at their headquarters.

The competition, which was in four parts, required the youngsters to use their creativity to make various items from the materials supplied. Five teams, each of four cubs, took part in the competition.

Judging was in the hands of three members of the Scout Active Support (people who give their time to Scouting on a flexible basis) and they chose the 4th Lowestoft cubs as the winners
