District Swimming 14

Local scout and cubs had a splashing good time recently when their annual swimming gala was held at the Waterlane Leisure Centre. 

The afternoon of competition in the pool began with boys and girls aged between 8-10½ years from six of the district’s cub groups taking part in six individual events and a relay race. 

Assistant District Commissioner (Cubs) Paul Cator said “the standard of swimming was very good and the races were keenly fought with the relay being so close that the result was tied. 1st Carlton Colville were the overall winners of the gala followed by 2nd Carlton Colville and 1st Blundeston.


25m Breaststroke – Issac Phillips

25m Backstroke – Eleanor Brown

25m Freestyle – Maliki Lawson

50m Breaststroke – Ben Blowers.

50m Freestyle – Joseph McGillivray

50m Backstroke – Harrison Holmes

4 x 25m relay – tied between 1st & 2nd Carlton Colville

Overall – 1st Carlton Colville, second place – 2nd Carlton Colville third place – 1st Blundeston


For the second part of the gala, scouts from six groups in the district took to the water. Joint Assistant District Commissioners (Scouts) Mark Green & Mark Hansensaid “we were impressed with the spirit and determination shown by all the swimmers and it was the team from 1st Blundeston who amassed most points to become the overall winner and to take the trophy.

Overall – 1st Blundeston, second place – 4th Lowestoft, third place – 1st Carlton Colville
