Lowestoft Beavers Celebrate 30th Anniversary

16 July 2014

Over 70 boys and girls representing most Beaver Scout colonies in the Lowestoft district gathered at Uplands Community Centre on Sunday to celebrate their 30th anniversary.

Beaver Scouts are the youngest section of the Scouting family and at their party they took part in a number of craft activities, organised by their leaders, including making fabric pencil cases, ‘shrinkies’ and birthday hats. The heavy showers limited the fun to indoor activities but they still managed to really enjoy playing a parachute and ball game.

Then it was time for a piece of birthday cake and each leader paraded in with individually created and beautifully iced culinary masterpieces.

Suffolk Assistant County Commissioner for Beavers, Brian Harvey joined Lowestoft Scouts District Commissioner Mel Buck and Assistant District Commissioner (ADC) for Beavers Jean Eglington in symbolically cutting one of the cakes to mark the anniversary – and in no time the cakes were being devoured by the eager beavers.

Then there was just time for a group photograph to record the momentous occasion before parents and carers arrived to collect their contented youngsters.

ADC Jean Eglington, who has been in scouting for 26 years and has been ADC Beavers for the last ten years, said, “30 years have really seemed to have flown by and I am overjoyed with the way the anniversary party has gone – and if the youngsters enjoyed it as much as I did, then they had a really great time.” Jean particularly praised all the Beavers leaders and helpers who had worked so hard to make the party such a success.
