Mud, sweat but no tears at Scouts cross-country race

The 23 runners taking part in this years Lowestoft District Scouts cross-country competition showed pluck and perseverance as they faced a challenging course with a variety of terrain including uneven ground and mud.

The race, held at the Scouts campsite at Herringfleet on the Somerleyton estate, set the runners the task of completing either a 2km or 3km course depending on their ages.

Organiser Lawrence Chapman said that he was pleased with the turnout and described conditions underfoot as challenging – with water, mud and an uphill section to contend with. He said it was a good test for the scouts, adding that they were fortunate to have had dry weather although it was rather cool and windy for the race.

1st Blundeston won the U12 team trophy and 4th Lowestoft were victorious in U14 team event.

The individual results for under 12s (2km) – 1st George Brown, 2nd Samuel Rees, 3rd Henry Cole (all 1st Blundeston).

The under 14s (3km) results were 1st Seb Faccas (4th Lowestoft), 2nd Max Simms (14th Lowestoft) and 3rd Levi Lawson (1st Oulton Broad)
