Scouts pay their respects to the fallen

21 December 2016

Across the Lowestoft district, scout groups took part in parades and services to remember those who lost their lives in wars and conflicts.

In the centre of Lowestoft the annual service of remembrance took place at the war memorial on Royal Plain – with Explorers, Scouts, Cubs and their leaders joining war veterans, emergency service contingents, other community groups and members of the public to pay their respects.

Scouts and cubs from 1st Oulton Broad, 1st Carlton Colville, 2nd Carlton Colville, 4th Lowestoft and the Explorer Unit were led by ADC Mark Hansen as they marched from Claremont Pier, together with army cadets, St John Ambulance and police cadets, along the sea front to the war memorial

On Royal Plain they formed up, in the cold November sunshine, together with standard bearers, veterans and personnel from armed forces and the blue light services – in front of a large gathering of spectators.

District Beaver Leader Gemma Eglington sounded the Last Post on her bugle and all fell silent to remember those lost in conflicts.

Wreathes were then laid by representatives from various civic and military groups and also on behalf of the District Scouts Association

Scout groups can also join parades and similar acts of remembrance elsewhere – with 1st Blundeston at Blundeston Church, 14th Lowestoft at Corton Church and 1st Pakefield at Pakefield Church.

DC Mel Buck said “It was really great to see so many from Lowestoft District Showing their respects – We Will Remember Them!”
