Scouts marathon fundraising effort for World Jamboree trip

4 June 2019

Four Lowestoft scouts have shown their determination to raise funds for a trip of a lifetime to the World Jamboree by rowing a marathon distance

Jonathon Chilley, Michael Cookson, Levi Lawson and Seb Faccas took it in turns in the hot seat to power an exercise machine, sited in the foyer of the Waterlane Sports Centre in Lowestoft, over the marathon distance of 26.2 miles.

A bucket collection from Sports Centre users helped to encourage the plucky boys to achieve their target distance. Each needs to raise £4000 to fund their trip and a number of other money raising activities are planned including an indoor car boot sale.

The boys are amongst a contingent from Suffolk scout groups selected to take part in the 24th World Scout Jamboree, which will be held in West Virginia, USA from 22nd July – 2nd August 2019

Described as an adventure beyond anything the boys can imagine, it will be hosted jointly between Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and the Scout Association of Mexico and will take place at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA.
